Jeremy Lin's Postgame Interview - Kings vs Knicks - 02.15.2012

Jeremy Lin never had it this easy when the opposition was Cornell and Princeton.

Or maybe Lin, just like the Knicks, keeps getting better and there is nothing anyone, especially the dreadful Sacramento Kings, can do about it.

There was no need for a last-second miracle or a fourth quarter rescue Wednesday night because Lin did most of his damage before halftime and he did it with his vision and smarts.

Yes, the Knicks have a point guard.

Lin improved his perfect record to 6-0 as a starter as the Knicks crushed the Kings from start to finish, beating them 100-85 to extend their winning streak to seven straight games. The Knicks (15-15) are back to being a .500 team but nothing about them seems mediocre.

They’ve become a different team since Lin became the full-time point guard and in his seventh game as the NBA’s biggest story Lin recorded a career-high in assists for the second straight night.

Lin finished with 13 assists which included four lob passes that led to dunks; two apiece for Tyson Chandler and Landry Fields. Lin was turning heads all night with his passing and made the Kings, a lifeless team, look silly on several occasions.

“We tried to play faster today,” Lin said. “I just threw it up and watched them go get it.”

One night after beating the Toronto Raptors with a 3-pointer with 0.5 seconds left, Lin showed that he can be a playmaker and not just a shooter. He had averaged 20 shots per game in his previous six games but Wednesday night he attempted only six, making four and finishing with 10 points and five rebounds.

“He’s light years ahead of most guys in their second season,” Mike D’Antoni said.

The blowout win allowed D’Antoni to give Lin much needed rest. Lin played just 27 minutes and sat the entire fourth quarter much to the dismay of the crowd, which began chanting “We Want Lin.” Early, they had chanted “M-V-P” when Lin went to the foul line and again during his post-game interview.

The crowd even had some fun at the expense of poor Isaiah Thomas, the Kings rookie. Although he is no relation to and Thomas’ first name is spelled differently than the former Knicks president and head coach, that didn’t stop the crowd from booing Thomas every time his name was announced and every time he scored. Thomas finished with 12 points on 6-for-13 shooting.

Zelda Kaplan Collapses At Joanna Mastroianni Fashion Show

Zelda Kaplan, who celebrated her 95th birthday this past summer, collapsed while sitting front row at the Joanna Mastroianni fall 2012 show at Lincoln Center Wednesday afternoon.

The Post is reporting that Kaplan has passed away; we will update this story upon further confirmation.

According to the New York Post, witnesses saw Kaplan "slumped forward" once the show had already begun. Security rushed to her aid, carrying her out of the show where EMTs gave her CPR and put her in a hospital-bound ambulance.

Prior to her collapse, the bespectacled fashion maven was photographed smiling in her front row seat (see photos below). Kaplan is one of the stars of Ari Cohen's Advanced Style blog, which features fabulous fashionistas in their 70s, 80s and 90s.

Known for African-inspired hats and prints as well as her round sunglasses, Kaplan is a world traveler who has journeyed to countries such as Ghana, Ethiopia and Nigeria for both fashion inspiration and women's activism. According to the New York Times, she discussed issues such as a woman's right of inheritance and female genital mutilation with the African villagers she visited.

Kaplan was wearing one of her African-inspired outfits on Wednesday at Joanna Mastroianni's show, the same red and black ensemble she wore last April when she was filmed for Advanced Style. In the video, she imparted these words of wisdom: "One must be interested in the world, not oneself only."

Honduras prison fire kills more than 350 inmates

A senior official at the attorney general's office, Danelia Ferrera, said 357 people died in the blaze that began late on Tuesday night at the prison in Comayagua, about 75 kilometers (45 miles) north of the capital Tegucigalpa.

It was one of the worst prison fires ever in Latin America, and local radio reports said many of the inmates were burned to death inside their cells.

"We heard screaming from the people who caught on fire," one prisoner told reporters, showing the fingers he fractured in his escape from the fire. "We had to push up the roof panels to get out."

Worried and angry relatives surrounded the prison on Wednesday morning with some throwing rocks at police and trying to force their way into the prison. Police responded by firing shots into the air and tear gas at the protesters, who were mostly women.

There was confusion over the death toll, with some reports that the 357 figure included more than 100 inmates who escaped during the fire and others that the dead and missing totaled 402 people - almost half the prison's inmates.Honduras has the highest murder rate in the world, according to the United Nations, and there are frequent riots and clashes between members of rival street gangs in its overcrowded prisons.

Across the country jails are often filled double to their capacity, with around 800 inmates crammed into the Comayagua prison alone.

The country is also plagued by violent gangs known as 'maras', which started in the United States and then spread down into Central America, with members covered in distinctive tattoos.

This latest incident follows a similar fire in the textile manufacturing town of San Pedro Sula several years ago, where 100 prisoners were killed.

Iran Oil Ministry Denies State Media Reports on EU Oil Stop

Iran's Oil Ministry on Wednesday denied state media reports that the Islamic state stopped making crude exports to six European countries."We deny this report ... If such a decision is made, it will be announced by Iran's Supreme National Security Council," a spokesman for the ministry told Reuters.

Iran's English language Press TV had earlier said Tehran has stopped exporting oil to France, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Netherlands and Spain.

Iran's English-language Press TV had reported earlier on Wednesday that the country had stopped oil exports to six European states in retaliation for European Union sanctions imposed on the Islamic state's key export.

"Iran cuts its oil exports to six European countries," Press TV reported.

Press TV said Iran had stopped exporting oil to Netherlands, Greece, France, Portugal, Spain and Italy.

Brent crude oil prices [LCOCV1 Loading... () ] were up $1 a barrel to $118.35 shortly after the announcement.

The EU's 27 member states have decided to stop importing crude from Iran beginning on July 1 over its disputed nuclear program, which the West says is aimed at building bombs. Iran denies this.

Iran's oil minister said on February 4 that the Islamic state would certainly cut its oil exports to "some" European countries.

The Jeremy Lin Show vs Toronto - First Half Highlights - 02.14.2012

Sitting on my parents' couch outside San Francisco in 2006, flipping channels, I happened across a replay of that year's high-school state championship game. I was quickly riveted by a skinny Taiwanese kid from Palo Alto, who repeatedly herked and jerked his way into the paint for points, leading his undersized team to a dramatic victory over heavily favored.

Chris Bosh Curses During LeBron James' Postgame Interview After Heat-Bucks Game (VIDEO)

Chris Bosh has interrupted his teammates' postgame interviews with his bizarre antics before, but the Heat forward might get fined for this one.

Following Miami's 114-96 win over Milwaukee on Monday night, a FOX Sports Florida reporter caught up with LeBron James -- who scored 35 points on 16 for 21 shooting and had eight rebounds -- for a postgame interview. But just seconds into the live segment, Bosh ran into the scene and interrupted the two.

"I think we did good. Real good. Good shit!" Bosh screamed before running away.

James started laughing as the reporter apologized to viewers for Bosh's "slight slip-up."

That "slip-up" might not go over so well with NBA Commissioner David Stern.

FEMEN Protests Topless Against Vladimir Putin And Gazprom Video

It seems it's never too cold for FEMEN. Despite temperatures dipping to minus 11 degrees Fahrenheit, members of the Ukrainian activist group protested outside the headquarters of Russian gas monopoly Gazprom -- topless.

According to the Associated Press, the women held signs reading "Gas Racket" and "Gas Gangsters," accusing Russian Prime Minster Vladimir Putin and Gazprom of subjugating Ukraine and Europe through its gas policies.

According to the Russia Times, FEMEN's official blog notes that the group is targeting Russia's "gas terror" against Ukraine during the country's freezing winter.

"The organization is also protesting against Russia's gas pressure, price monopoly, takeover of national gas transportation, and forcing gas-depending countries into dead-born political and economic unions," the blog reportedly reads.

Gazprom is the biggest producer of natural gas in the world.

FEMEN also gathered outside the International Ice Hockey Federation's main offices to protest Belarus as the host of 2014's Hockey World Cup. Belarusian president Alyaksandr Lukashenko's has been accused of increasing human rights abuses, and Belarus has been called the "last European dictatorship."

"Topless protests are probably the strongest and most effective form of peaceful and nonviolent protests to attract attention," Anna Hutsol, one of FEMEN's leaders, told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in an interview.

"You can throw a grenade, go on hunger strike, blow something up or shoot someone. Or you can go out topless," Hutsol said.

Olympic swimmer Matt Grevers proposes to Annie Chandler at Missouri Grand Prix.

Rarely has so much depended on U.S. Olympic swimmer Matt Grevers earning spot on the medal stand. Thankfully, everything went according to plan for Grevers on Saturday. After winning the gold in the 100-meter backstroke at the Missouri Grand Prix on Saturday night, the 26-year-old pulled off a surprise marriage proposal to his girlfriend, and USA national swimming teammate, Annie Chandler... on the medal stand.

Chandler, 24, placed the medal on Grevers and walked out of the way as the ceremony continued. She walked back over to him after the silver and bronze winners left the stand following some photos. The unsuspecting Chandler then stood up on the stand with Grevers when he dropped to one knee, stunning her as well as the crowd with a public proposal.

She immediately said yes.

According to the Associated Press, Grevers' older brother Andy sneaked his sibling the diamond engagement ring.

"I took it out a little fast because my heart was racing the whole time," he said. "If I didn't get first it wouldn't have worked out so well."

Grevers won a gold medal in the 2008 Olympics as a preliminary relay swimmer and a silver in the 100 meter backstroke.

Grammys 2012: More Beach Boys, less Maroon 5, Foster the People

The surviving members of the Beach Boys, who will tour this year in honor of the band's 50th anniversary, gave fans a sneak preview at the 54th Grammy Awards. Though the lead-in with Foster the People and Maroon 5 was puzzling at best and cringe-inducing at worst, the Beach Boys' run-through of "Good Vibrations," while not an exalting return to the stage, was borderline heartwarming.

It brought Glen Campbell, who once performed with the Beach Boys, to his feet, and seeing Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Bruce Johnston, Al Jardine and David Marks perform together was something of a refreshing relief. The song's sonic explorations are as refreshing as ever, and though Wilson isn't all that mobile these days, there's no denying the look of sheer joy on his face every time he gets to perform.

It doesn't say much when "Good Vibrations" was far more experimental and out of this world than the numbers by many of the acts that had already appeared. The Beach Boys, in fact, showed the limitations of the acts they performed with. Maroon 5's take on "Surfer Girl" was far more serious than need be, and the band's slick electro-pop has nothing in common with the Beach Boys' studio-enhanced musical journeys.Wilco. The rock album contenders are quite possibly the most versatile act nominated this year. Songs such as "Sunloathe" on new album "The Whole Love" reach for a "Pet Sounds"-like grandeur, creating an orchestra of sounds based around the guitar.

Kobe Bryant's Game Winner vs Raptors (Feb. 12, 2012)

TORONTO -- After leading by 18 points in the first half, the Los Angeles Lakers were staring at a four-point deficit with less than two minutes to play.

Metta World Peace wasn't worried about losing. He was trying to figure out how much the Lakers would win by. Having Kobe Bryant as a teammate gives you that kind of confidence.

Bryant hit a baseline jump shot with 4.2 seconds left and the Lakers wrapped up a six-game road trip by holding on to beat the Raptors 94-92 on Sunday, their eighth victory in nine meetings with Toronto.

"When you've got a guy like Kobe Bryant, you're always going to give yourself a chance," Lakers coach Mike Brown said.

Bryant, who scored 27 points, took an inbound pass from World Peace, evaded DeMar DeRozan and shot over the outstretched arms of James Johnson to deny the Raptors.

"I just noticed a spot open on the baseline," Bryant said. "Everything was set for me to try and catch it down there because I knew I could catch and shoot. If I go to the top of the floor the defense can kind of key on me and I'm far away from the basket. Once I noticed that space open it was just a matter of me trying to shake DeRozan and get to that spot.""We're a poor road team, and that's what we need to turn around," Bryant said. "If we could figure out a way to win games on the road, our record would be much, much better."

Bryant's late-game scoring came as no surprise to World Peace, who approached Brown with just over a minute to go and volunteered to guard the Raptors' Jose Calderon, who scored a career-best 30. Brown turned the offer down.

Brown said World Peace then told him, "You know what? You're right. There's still time on the clock. We're fine. We'll win by ... uh."The Lakers, looking as though they were feeling the effects of back-to-back games after beating the Celtics in overtime in Boston on Thursday, shot a poor 37.5 percent from the floor as they fell to 15-12.

"We didn't have the energy to play well. We were very lethargic," said a despondent Bryant. "I wasn't aggressive in the first half, I was stuck in the mud."

Ryan Callahan Hattrick vs the Flyers | Feb 11th, 2012

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Everything seems to go right for the New York Rangers when they play the Flyers, even their anemic power play.

Ryan Callahan scored three goals and the Rangers beat Philadelphia 5-2 on Saturday for their seventh straight win over the Flyers.

Marian Gaborik and Artem Anisimov also had goals for the Eastern Conference-leading Rangers, who broke out of their power-play funk and improved to 5-0 against the Flyers this season — including a win in the Winter Classic.

It was a rare display on special teams that catapulted the Rangers to their second victory over Philadelphia in seven days. New York had a season-high three goals on the power play.

"We felt it was coming," Callahan said. "We knew we had guys who can execute. It was a matter of getting some bounces."It was a rare display on special teams that catapulted the Rangers to their second victory over Philadelphia in seven days. New York had a season-high three goals on the power play.

“We felt it was coming,” Callahan said. “We knew we had guys who can execute. It was a matter of getting some bounces.”

New York increased its lead to six points over the Flyers in the Atlantic Division and have two games in hand.

“I was a little disappointed with the effort, actually,” Philadelphia defenseman Kimmo Timonen said. “The emotional level, top team in the conference, league. It was a big game for us, and I was expecting more."I was a little disappointed with the effort, the emotional level, against a top team in the Eastern Conference, the League," said Timonen. "To be honest, I think we had half the guys going and half the guys not (at the start). That was my opinion. You might have seen different but that's what I saw."

The Flyers won't have long to rediscover their effort, as they travel to League-leading Detroit for a game Sunday against the Red Wings (7:30 p.m., NBCSP, TSN2). The Wings will be going for their 20th straight home win, which would tie the NHL record.

"We just can't have one or two lines going and four (defensemen) or whatever," said Timonen. "We need everybody to get going here. This is the time of the year you need everybody going. If you don't, that (Saturday's game) happens. Tomorrow if we're not ready to play, it's an even tougher opponent than today."

Fulham 2 Stoke 1

PAVEL POGREBNYAK marked his Fulham debut with a goal as the Cottagers defeated Stoke.
The Russian – a deadline day signing from Stuttgart – latched on to John Arne Riise's ball to fire in the opener for the hosts.

Fulham then doubled their lead when the in-form Clint Dempsey rattled a 25-yarder against the bar which hit the back of Stoke keeper Thomas Sorensen and bounced in.With 12 minutes to go, Stoke pulled one back through a Ryan Shawcross header to set up a frantic finish.

But Martin Jol's men held on to climb above their opponents and up to 12th in the league.

It was a deserved win for the hosts who were in the ascendancy from early on and bossed possession in the opening stages.

Mousa Dembele was particularly impressive despite playing in an unusual role alongside Danny Murphy in central midfield.

And the Cottagers turned their dominance into a 16th-minute goal as Pogrebnyak controlled a wayward John Arne Riise ball inside the box and unleashed a fierce drive into the top left-hand corner.

Incredibly, Pogrebnyak's goal means he becomes the first ever player to score on his Premier League debut while playing for Fulham.

Stoke pushed for an immediate equaliser with Wilson Palacios shooting just wide and Kenwyne Jones looking a threat.

Dempsey had other ideas however as he fired a crashing 25-yard drive against the bar with the ball rebounding in off Stoke keeper Sorensen's back.

Shawcross was to thank for stopping a third goal when he managed to clear Pogrebnyak's dangerous ball to an unmarked Dempsey in the six-yard box.

Stoke looked rejuvenated immediately after the restart and came close to reducing the deficit through Matthew Upson, who volleyed Whelan's free-kick just wide.

But the home side still looked threatening going forward and a Stephen Kelly cross almost snuck inside Sorensen's near post moments later.

Goal scorer Pogrebnyak had to be replaced just after the hour-mark when he appeared to fall awkwardly in a challenge with Shawcross.

Shawcross then gave the Potters hope when he headed home at the near post from Jermaine Pennant's corner after 78 minutes, before Peter Crouch flashed a shot over from close range as they pushed for a leveller.

Dempsey though should have put the game to bed but could not get his effort away after a mixup between Shawcross and Matthew Upson.

And the United States international then hit the post after rounding Sorensen towards the end of injury time.

But his late misses were not to matter and Jol's side registered a precious three points their dominant performance deserved.

Manchester United Vs Liverpool 2-1- Premier League Highlights And Result- Rooney’s Brace Gives United All 3 Points

Following the suspension of Luis Suarez from the starting XI of Liverpool due to the racial abusing against Patrice Evra now the Uruguayan striker was able to play although however the tension in the match was evident.

From the moment the players entered the pitch and had to shake each other’s hands, Suarez refused to shake Patrice Evra and moments later Ferdinand did the same to him.

The actual game picked up with Liverpool taking some long range shots over to David De Gea but not causing much danger at this stage of the match while United was relying more on their wings with Antonio Valencia pretty much unstoppable throughout the entire encounter.

Both sides struggled on creating a clear cut chance on scoring and some controversial moments arrived when Luis Suarez was brought down in the own half of United by Rio Ferdinand but the referee Phil Downing made the correct decision in denying the claims of Suarez as the replay showed Ferdinand got the ball away from him without any fouls.

2nd half picked up and the goals also arrived when Ryan Giggs whipped in a corner that went into the path of Jordan Henderson but he inadvertently flicked it to Rooney who scored from close range. 3 minutes later and Wayne Rooney scored his brace for this match after Valencia recovered the ball in midfield and later slipped it to the rushing Rooney and the England forward tapped it between the legs of Pepe Reina and into the net.

With the match going in the tide of United, it looked like Liverpool had no chance of scoring but luckily for the visiting side Suarez was able to salvage 1 goal at the 80th minute but it really did not change much as United won 2-1.

This result allows United to jump past Manchester City in the Premier League standings with 58 points just 1 more than their local rivals City.

Jeremy Lin vs Lakers Highlights 38 points! 10-FEB-2012

NEW YORK - There were 19,763 fans at Madison Square Garden on Friday night, and while in the deepest reaches of their imagination they may have dreamed of a night like this, not one could really have believed it possible.
Knicks' Jeremy Lin (17) spins past Los Angeles Lakers' Derek Fisher (2) during the first half of Friday night's game. Lin finished with 38 points, seven assists and four rebounds.

Knicks' Jeremy Lin (17) spins past Los Angeles Lakers' Derek Fisher (2) during the first half of Friday night's game. Lin finished with 38 points, seven assists and four rebounds.

The Jeremy Lin craze that had taken hold over the last week surely would come crashing back to reality with Kobe Bryant and the Lakers arriving. A night earlier in Boston, Bryant had been asked about Lin and insisted he had no idea of what Lin had been doing and when he was asked if he would need to guard him, gasped, “Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”

Maybe it’s time to get ahead of ourselves. Maybe it’s time to join the dream.Lin followed his 28-point, eight-assist outing Monday in his first career start by scoring 23 points and handing out 10 assists Wednesday against Washington, becoming the first player since LeBron James in 2003 and just the sixth since 1970 to have at least 20 points and eight assists in his first two starts, according to research from the Elias Sports Bureau provided by the Knicks.

He became an instant star in New York just as fans were ready to check out basketball after the Giants' Super Bowl run was over, and just when it appeared the Knicks might fall too far behind in the standings to salvage the season.

Some Lin shirts were scattered throughout Madison Square Garden – though Spike Lee was still wearing Landry Fields' No. 2 in his courtside seat. Ratings on MSG network are up since Lin joined the lineup, and the NBA said some of its Asian TV partners have added Knicks games to their broadcast schedules so fans can see the league's first American-born player of Chinese or Taiwanese descent.Lin followed his 28-point, eight-assist outing Monday in his first career start by scoring 23 points and handing out 10 assists Wednesday against Washington, becoming the first player since LeBron James in 2003 and just the sixth since 1970 to have at least 20 points and eight assists in his first two starts, according to research from the Elias Sports Bureau provided by the Knicks.

Lin hit two free throws with 52.3 seconds to play to give the Knicks an 89-82 lead, giving him 38 points. He picked up an important charge on LA and former Stanford standout Landry Fields made two of four free throws in the final seconds to secure the victory.

Friday marked the deadline for teams to guarantee player contracts for the remainder of the season. The Knicks locked up Lin on Tuesday for a reported $788,000.

Dog bites TV Reporter Kyle Dyer on Face

Dog bites news anchor Kyle Dyer in the face (longer version) by Argentine mastiff dog Dogo Argentino Hund beißt in den Nachrichten Anker Kyle Dyer ist TV-Moderatorin Les morsures de chien dans le Dyer nouvelles ancrage Kyle est présentatrice à la télévision.Dyer was interviewing firefighter Tyler Sugaski and the dog's owner, Michael Robinson, when the dog, named Max, bit her on the face. Sugaski tended to Dyer in the studio until paramedics arrived and took her to the hospital.

KUSA reported Thursday that Dyer was released from Denver Health Medical Center, where she had reconstructive surgery to her lip.

"The dog bite accident that happened today at 9News was unfortunate and certainly not expected based on what we knew about the dog and his owner," Dennis wrote on the station's Facebook page. "Our goal was to unite the owner with the rescuer for a nice segment. We are all thinking of Kyle and her recovery."

According to the station, Robinson was taking the dog for a walk without a leash on Tuesday around 5:30 p.m. when the dog spotted a coyote running out of a bush. The dog chased the coyote onto the ice and fell into the freezing water, where the animal spent 20 minutes before firefighters arrived.

Sugaski broke the ice with his arms to get closer to the dog.

"The dog recognized right off that I was there to help, so he came towards me," Sugaski said.

The West Metro Fire Department said Sugaski was unavailable for comment.

Piracy At The VEVO PowerStation, Sundance 2012

Over the last decade the major music labels — and their trade organization, the Recording Industry Association of America — have established a repeated pattern of attacking consumers in the name of squelching illegal file-sharing. Piracy, they claim, has been the industry’s undoing, accounting for an over 50% drop in sales since 1999 (the industry likes to discount the impact of legal per-song music downloads via services like iTunes, and the myriad other changes facilitated by the rise of high-speed Internet connections).

Their efforts to combat piracy are often draconian: threatening tens of thousands of people with lawsuits claiming obscenely high damages; attempting to coordinate their threats with consumers’ ISPs; and, most recently, supporting legislation like SOPA and PIPA that would undermine the fabric of the Internet. Hell, Universal once pulled down a 30 second YouTube video of a dancing baby because the baby had the audacity to dance to a Prince song. The event’s redeeming factors, at least as far as this reporter was concerned, were the tasty hamburger sliders and the Patriots v. Ravens playoff game on ESPN that was playing throughout the venue. That is, until the game was rudely interrupted — not by a commercial break, but by a bizarre buffering warning.

In hindsight, I should have noticed it immediately. The shoddy video quality and jitters clearly didn’t belong to an HD feed, despite the ESPN America HD logo in the lower right hand corner. And then there’s the fact that ESPN America isn’t even available in US markets (it’s a UK-based station).

But between the blaring music and having James Marsden (Cyclops!) standing three feet in front of me, it wasn’t until the pirate flags were fully unfurled that I finally noticed them. First the buffering message appeared, then a mouse cursor — controlled by forces unseen — flew onto the TV to exit out of full-screen mode and refresh the page. I think it may have also closed a few popover ads.

At this point I tried to figure out the origins of the feed. As far as I could tell, the stream itself was coming from a Spanish-language live-streaming site called TuTele.tv. But that feed had apparently been accessed via a site called Frontrow.tv, which is itself an aggregator of live sports streams. At first glance, neither site looked particularly trustworthy. As for who actually decided to play the stream, or why, VEVO says the public had access to the computer being used so they can’t say for sure who exactly was responsible. Which is dubious (and almost certainly spin) — there was clearly someone actively controlling the computer, because they refreshed it when the connection stalled, and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a random attendee who was taking the helm. Must have been one of those nasty pirates.

In any case, were it the music industry that was on the other side of this, you can be sure they’d dismiss all of the aforementioned explanations without a second thought. And then they’d probably assess damages in the realm of $20,000 per down.

We’ve reached out to ESPN to ask if it will be pursuing legal action against VEVO, Continuum, or any of the other companies involved with the event.

Austin Rivers buzzer beater vs North Carolina 2/8/12

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Austin Rivers never looked like a freshman in his first Duke-North Carolina rivalry game – including when he buried a shot that will live on in the lore of this fierce rivalry.

Rivers hit a 3-pointer at the horn to give No. 10 Duke an 85-84 win over No. 5 North Carolina on Wednesday night, snapping the Tar Heels' school-record 31-game home winning streak.

Rivers scored a season-high 29 points and hit six 3s, the last over 7-footer Tyler Zeller with the Blue Devils (20-4, 7-2) trailing by two in the final seconds. The ball swished through the net, sending Rivers running down the court in celebration while the rest of his teammates gave chase before mobbing him in front of a stunned UNC crowd.

Rivers' 3 capped a wild rally for the Blue Devils, who trailed by 10 points with about 2 1/2 minutes left.

Harrison Barnes scored 25 points for the Tar Heels (20-4, 7-2), while Zeller finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds. But Zeller missed two free throws in the final minute, including one with 13.9 seconds left that set up Rivers' winning shot.hen again, North Carolina probably never should've let it come to that.

After trailing most of the first half, the Tar Heels ran off a 14-4 run to start the second half and build a 13-point lead. Barnes – who didn't have a field goal in the first half – finally getting going with a pair of baskets and a 3-pointer off a crosscourt pass from Kendall Marshall to take a 57-44 lead with 15:08 left.

North Carolina maintained at least a seven-point lead most of the way from there, with Barnes' last jumper giving the Tar Heels an 82-72 lead with 2:38 left.

Curry and Kelly each had 15 points for Duke, which shot 44 percent and matched a season high with 14 3-pointers.

North Carolina shot 59 percent in the second half, but went just 8 for 15 from the foul line after halftime to let this one slip painfully away.

Jeremy Lin vs Wizards [Highlights] - February 8th 2012

The Washington Wizards fell victim to the Jeremy Lin show. Hard to really come away from this game with any other conclusion. Lin showed the world again why he's legitimate, and the Knicks completely picked the Wizards apart in the pick and roll in winning, 107-93. It ended up being one of the most embarrassing losses for the Wizards all season, if only because of the inevitable Lin vs. John Wall framing that tells us absolutely nothing about why this game was lost.

Wall had 29 points and one turnover in the entire game. Wall was not the reason the Wizards lost. In fact, without Wall, they probably lose by 30. The Wizards' pick and roll coverage was awful, and the big men were mostly to blame. Lin can certainly change speeds beautifully, but the Wizards' big men never were able to prevent him from getting inside the free-throw line extended. Proper pick and roll coverage involves Wall pressuring the ball, the big man stepping out and beating the guard to the spot and Wall recovering quickly, in that order. The second part of the chain kept breaking down, and that is why the Wizards lost.
