Watch Rampage vs. Jones at UFC 135

Though he might not like him, Quinton (Rampage) Jackson realizes that Jon Jones has the potential to dominate Ultimate Fighting Championship for many years to come. In the same breath, however, Jackson is equally insistent that it isn’t Jones’s time just yet.In a match-up between a 32-year-old veteran and a 24-year-old newcomer, Jackson (32-8) looks to regain the UFC light heavyweight title when he takes on Jones (13-1) in Saturday’s main event of UFC 135 at Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.Unfortunately for those of you looking to lay down a lot of loot, this one might not be the best of cards for you. The betting lines feature a number of mismatches and heavy favorites, in fact the card features only three fights where the favored fighter is less than a 2-to-1 favorite. However, there’s nothing wrong with a couple of parlays to make your odds slightly better (actually, there kind of is, parlays are generally considered sucker bets, but we can’t let a UFC event go by without betting on it.) As always, all betting lines are the current best available market lines from Best Fight OddsJosh Koscheck (17-5), back after nine months on the sideline following a loss last December to welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, takes on UFC Hall-of-Famer Matt Hughes (46-8).

Google Doodle - Jim Henson's 75th Birthday

Google is celebrating the 75th birthday of Muppets creator Jim Henson with an interactive homepage doodle that turns the average Web user into a puppeteer.
"Become a digital puppeteer today and tomorrow with our homepage tribute to Jim Henson!" Google tweeted.
Henson's birthday is on Saturday, September 24, but Google got the party started early Friday night. The doodle features six original characters crafted by the Jim Henson Digital Puppetry Studio and brought to life on the Web by Google engineers. Each colorful creature sits atop a small button; press it and the character will follow your mouse's movements. Clicking on the character, meanwhile, will make it "talk."The six new Muppets were designed expressly for this project. The Jim Henson Company says the Google partnership is a way to ”commemorate and elebrate Jim’s creative legacy.” (Google tweeted: “Become a digital puppeteer today and tomorrow with our homepage tribute to Jim Henson!”)

“He loved gadgets and technology,” Brian Henson, chairman of the Jim Henson Company, writes about his dad in a Google blog tribute. “Following his lead, The Jim Henson Company continues to develop cutting-edge technology for animatronics and digital animation, ... But I think even he would have found it hilarious the way today some people feel that when they’ve got their smartphone, they no longer need their brain.”Henson died aged 53 in 1990, yet his legacy, including characters from "Sesame Street" and "The Muppet Show," has wafted merrily into cultural history.
Google's little homage is a fine tribute to a man who, apparently, began every one of his new creations with, well, a doodle.

Watch The X Factor Auditions Melanie Amaro Gets Standing Ovation

This 18-year old put gave us the audition of the (early) season last night, belting out Beyonce's "Listen," bringing Nicole Scherzinger to tears and prompting Simon Cowell to say: "When I was asked by people why I was bringing this show to America it was because I hoped we were going to find someone like you."Melanie Amaro certainly got off to an impressive start during her audition on Thursday's episode of The X Factor. Xander was nothing but pure sass, saying he wanted to be "the next Donald Trump meets Martha Stewart without the jail time, meets Britney Spears meets Beyonce without the ugly husband." Harsh! He didn't cool off his act in front of the judges either, dissing Simon Cowell and eventually getting them and the audience against him. His voice wasn't bad, but his attitude got him the boot. The college freshman, 18, brought her entire family along to hear her sing Beyoncé's "Listen" in front of judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid and new judge Nicole Scherzinger at Miami's United Bank Center. This was so good! Melanie Amaro auditions with 'Listen' by Beyonce on The X Factor Audition hq audio usa hd

Hewlett Packard names Meg Whitman CEO

SAN FRANCISCO: Hewlett-Packard Co named former eBay Inc Chief Executive Meg Whitman as its new president and CEO, replacing unpopular leader Leo Apotheker at the helm of the largest US technology company.

The move, effective immediately, confirmed earlier reports on the impending change.

"We are at a critical moment and we need renewed leadership to successfully implement our strategy and take advantage of the market opportunities ahead," said Ray Lane, who has moved from non-executive chairman to executive chairman of HP's board.Apotheker, who became CEO in November, rankled investors by lowering sales forecasts three times and making jarring strategy shifts. Before yesterday, when Bloomberg reported that he may be fired, the company's stock had plunged 47 percent on his watch. "Investor exasperation" with management is at its highest in more than a decade, according to Toni Sacconaghi, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co.Directors had steadily grown frustrated with Mr. Apotheker as he had been unable to make H-P's quarterly numbers for three quarters, people familiar with the matter said. The CEO also tended to consult only a few people, notably Mr. Lane and strategy chief Shane Robison, these people said. For instance, Mr. Apotheker didn't inform H-P's PC head Todd Bradley about plans to potentially spin off that unit until days before that decision was announced publicly, Mr. Bradley and others have said.Better choices would include HP enterprise chief Dave Donatelli and PC head Todd Bradley, two names that had also made the rounds in Silicon Valley for the top job after Mark Hurd's ouster in August 2010, he added.

On a more personal level, opponents on the campaign trail last year raised questions about her fierce temper and imperious manner with employees, and even about her integrity after it emerged that the wealthy former CEO had employed an illegal alien maid.

Watch NASA satellite Crash On Friday

A NASA research satellite is expected to hit Earth in the coming days. Most of the six-ton, 35-foot long satellite will burn up on re-entry into the atmosphere, but 26 large chunks are expected to hit Earth's surface. Exactly where they will crash is hard to predict, but NASA does say the satellite is not expected to be over North America when it re-enters. It is the largest satellite to fall back to Earth uncontrolled since Skylab in 1979.NASA has revised its predictions and now says its defunct Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite will enter the atmosphere some time late September 23 or the morning of September 24. The 7-ton UARS satellite, the size of a school bus, is expected to break up into 26 pieces that will survive re-entry. NASA says the pieces have a 1 in 3200 probability of hitting a terrestrial inhabitant, but believes that the pieces will miss North America. A more accurate prediction will be issued within 12 hours of the projected breakup.
The UARS satellite was launched in 1991 by the Space Shuttle Discovery. At launch, it was 35-feet long, 15 feet in diameter, and weighed in at 13,000 pounds. It was used to measure ozone and chemical compounds found in the ozone layer which affect ozone chemistry and processes, as well as winds and temperatures in the stratosphere and the energy input from the Sun. "Together, these help define the role of the upper atmosphere in climate and climate variability," NASA said. It was officially decommissioned on December 14, 2005

Watch Cheryl Cole Praised For 'US X Factor' Performance

The first reviews are in for the US X Factor and it seems the Americans much prefer Cheryl Cole to new judge Nicole Scherzinger, branding the Pussycat Doll nothing more than a 'seat warmer'.Although Girls Aloud singer Cheryl was axed from the show back in May - when SiCo felt she was ‘uncomfortable’ on the panel - she still appears in the opening episode which will air on UK TV tonight on ITV2.

One review read: ‘In the premiere Cheryl just kind of disappears mid show, without much explanation, and suddenly Nicole Scherzinger of Pussycat Dolls is in her chair.’In TV’s not so olden days, such a performer would have been removed from the stage and certainly edited from the show tape. The live audience seemed appalled by the act. We were warned that the American version of X Factor would be brasher but this was plain indecent. Cheryl Cole may have been grateful that she was replaced as a judge prior to this vulgarity. When she joined the U.K. version in 2008 fresh from her split from footballer Ashley Cole, she immediately became a television darling who was sassy, sharp and sparkling onscreen.
Her chemistry with Cowell was undeniable, and he unapologetically made her his favourite on the panel, which then included Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh.
But her charisma and well, x factor, didn't seem to follow when she jettisoned across the pond earlier this year. The New York Times described Welsh host Steve Jones as "utterly irrelevant", while the Boston Herald said he "is so far in the background, he might as well be on another network".

The comments came after a recent interview with Piers Morgan, in which Cowell said that Cole looked "a bit bewildered" on the judging panel.

He told Morgan: "Not everyone's like you Piers. You come to a country like America, it's a big deal - it takes a while to adjust and I took the view along with a few other people that she would be more comfortable back in the UK."

Yankees clinch AL East with twinbill sweep

New York swept the Tampa Bay Rays by identical 4-2 scores in a day-night doubleheader Wednesday to win the AL East. Jorge Posada came off the bench and helped the Yankees to yet another first-place finish with a go-ahead single in the eighth inning, and New York swept the Tampa Bay Rays by identical 4-2 scores in a day-night doubleheader Wednesday to win the AL East.Accomplishing most of their regular-season goals with a week to spare, the Yankees earned their 16th playoff berth in 17 seasons by winning the day game behind Robinson Cano's tiebreaking, two-run double in the eighth.
They didn't bother celebrating after that one — Yankees blase at its best — but vowed to let loose when they ensured the division crown. They made good on that promise, donning goggles and spraying the bubbly in the clubhouse. The big hit propelled New York to sweep the Tampa Bay Rays by identical 4-2 scores in a day-night doubleheader, clinching the AL East title.

So filled with emotion was Posada, he was sure the game was over when his bases-loaded hit bounced into right field as pinch-runner Greg Golson came home from third.

French protest planned Troy Davis execution in US

Troy Davis was executed this evening after the U.S. Supreme Court denied a last-minute stay of execution.
Davis died at 11:08 p.m. ET, according to a Georgia Department of Corrections official.
Eyewitnesses described the mood in the execution chamber as "somber" as Davis was wheeled in strapped to a gurney. He declared his innocence a final time as the witnesses and relatives of his alleged murder victim looked on.
The execution was delayed more than four hours as the U.S. Supreme Court weighed last-minute arguments from Davis' legal team and the state of Georgia over whether his execution should be blocked.Lawyers for Davis filed the appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court Wednesday evening, after the Georgia Supreme Court rejected a similar appeal, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The Georgia pardons board rejected a last-ditch request Wednesday to halt the execution.

Davis had been scheduled to die at 7 p.m. EDT by lethal injection at the prison near Jackson.
"Many of these witnesses have stated in sworn affidavits that they were pressured or coerced by police into testifying or signing statements against Troy Davis."

Perhaps the most chilling aspect of the case is the fact that one of the two witnesses who has not recanted his testimony, Sylvester "Red" Coles, is the principle alternative suspect. Amnesty International reports the nine individuals have signed affidavits implicating Coles in the crime.

UMichigan Grandmothers Shotgun Beers At Football Game

My wife is a Michigan grad. My sons have Michigan grandmothers. What does all this mean? Someday on a college campus in the future this could be my family.

With all the conference realignment talk sometimes it's worth pointing out that the reason we all love college football is because sometimes it leads to this -- grandmas shotgunning beers at a tailgate.Apparently grandmas are a bit different at Michigan, though. In my 30 years, I don't believe I've seen my grandma drink anything but coffee and water, and when she does, she sips it. Then there are these grandmas at a Michigan game. They drink beer, and they don't sip that stuff. No, that's for freshman sissies. These ladies drink beer the way it was meant to be drank. They were better at shotgunning beers than either of the editors of HuffPost College. That is all.

Watch Ron Artest & Peta Murgatroyd on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Jimmy Kimmel Live - The second part of Jimmy's interview with Ron Artest, also known as Metta World Peace, and his dance partner Peta MurgatroydRon Artest, Los Angeles Lakers star, made a name change to Metta World Peace; a Los Angeles court official approved Friday. Some will feel aggrieved that World Peace's departure would also mean the departure of rookie professional Peta Murgatroyd, who, to esthetes, bears more than a passing resemblance to the Australian love-child of Pamela Anderson.World Peace did not attend the brief hearing at which Los Angeles County Superior Court Commissioner Matthew St. George OK'd the change, the Los Angeles Times reported. He was represented by his attorney, Nahla Rajan, the newspaper said.

Watch Charlie Sheen on Two and Half men on Emmys 2011

Washington: Charlie Sheen, who was fired from hit CBS sitcom ‘Two and a Half Men’ in March 2011 following his erratic behavior, offered an olive branch to his former colleagues at the Emmy Awards last night.

Sheen, who was tapped to be a surprise presenter, took the stage and wished the cast and crew of the series “the best” while presenting the award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series, which he called his “old category”."I want to take a moment to get something off my chest and say a few words to everybody here from `Two and a Half Men," Sheen said as a silence fell over the awards show audience.

"From the bottom of my heart, I wish you nothing but the best for this upcoming season. We spent eight wonderful years together and I know you will continue to make great television."The viewers obviously loved every minute of it. Tweets flooding into Kosta asking everything from where he was broadcasting to a personal “how many times have you been fired?” The last time I checked I believe I saw over 90,000 viewers had tuned in to the behind the scenes footage. It was a brilliant social media tool I hope more Hollywood events will implement in the future. The key to its success, in my opinion is not just having the technology in place, but rather a host like Kosta, with excellent improv talent, who can truly deliver on the backstage entertainment value.

Rugby World Cup 2011: News Zealand Beat Japan 83 - 7

New Zealand beat Japan 83-7 to move clear atop its Rugby World Cup group with the maximum points from its opening two matches. The All Blacks scored 13 tries, with 11 different players touching down. Richard Kahui and Sonny Bill Williams got two tries each in Hamilton. Hirotoki Onozawa got Japan’s only try in the 58th minute. But with captain Richie McCaw and fly-half Dan Carter rested in the hope that they can shake off niggles in time to face Marc Lievremont’s mercurial side, Henry was pleased that the All Blacks crossed 13 times; and there were 11 different scorers.Richard Kahui took his tournament tally to four with another brace to add to his two in the 41-10 victory over Tonga in the World Cup’s opening game.Rich Deane, the manager of Altitude Bar which the players visited, posted a message on Facebook defending their conduct. He wrote: "Firstly: There was no dwarf throwing - that's just not cool! Secondly: There was no scandal by any of the English rugby players that we saw!"They were great lads, not throwing the midgets, it was all light-hearted good-humoured fun!"New Zealand next faces the French on Sept. 24 in a matchup of the teams ranked Nos. 1 and 5 by the International Rugby Board. Fan catches foul ball while talking on cell Phone

Apparently the phrase "act like you've been there before" also applies to fans in the stands who catch foul balls at Texas Rangers games. No matter what else they happen to be doing at the time.

A fan wearing a baseball glove and using a cell phone barely left his seat to catch a foul ball from Ian Kinsler (notes) in the first inning Wednesday night, and yet he didn't let the experience interrupt the conversation he was having. His nifty-but-casual play amused the folks around him, the announcers in Rangers' TV booth and, presumably, viewers like you. Rangers fan making a rather impressive catch of an Ian Kinsler foul ball during the first inning Wednesday night. The best part is, instead of celebrating, the fan just keeps talking nonchalantly on his cell phone. That's what the Rangers fan in the video below did in Wednesday's game against the Cleveland Indians.

In the very first inning, Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler hit a scorching line drive to the stands on the first base side. A fan talking on his cell phone, very casually, stuck out his gloved hand and caught the ball, while continuing his phone conversation.

Watch Usa Vs Russia 13-6 Rugby World Cup 2011

The United States' greater experience of playing at a higher level made the difference as kickers endured a miserable night in soggy conditions.

US full-back Chris Wyles slotted eight points with the boot through two penalties and a conversion of scrum half Mike Petri's try, but he missed another three penalties and a drop goal.

Russia flyhalf Yury Kushnarev notched his country's first World Cup points, though he too missed three penalties before centre Konstantin Rachkov took over to slot a late penalty.Yury Kushnarev kicked a penalty goal in the third minute to score Russia’s first points, but the Americans rallied to take a 10-3 halftime lead. Heavy rain drenched the Taranaki Stadium in the second half, restricting scoring to one penalty goal apiece.
“It’s an awesome feeling,” U.S. captain Todd Clever said. “I’m proud of the boys for sticking through.“We made it tough for ourselves, but the crowd helped get us through that one.”Clever, whose side had a short turnaround after losing to Ireland on Sunday, said: "I was very nervous. They are a tough team and they are improving, every time we play them they are getting better and better. I am just so proud of the guys that we were able to finish that.

"It's an awesome feeling (to win). I am proud of the boys for sticking through. We made it tough on ourselves but the crowd got us through. Mentally we were there but physically we were a little slow off the cuff, but we have a break before our next game so hopefully we can be back to 100 per cent."

People envy my cash and good looks Ronaldo

Madrid: Opposing fans give Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo a hostile reception because he is "rich, handsome and a great player," the Portuguese said after Wednesday's 1-0 Champions League win at Dinamo Zagreb.Ronaldo, the world's most expensive signing, was roundly booed and whistled during the Group D opener in Croatia and was also the target of some robust challenges, one of which drew blood on his right ankle and required several stitches.Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo says Dinamo Zagreb fans are 'jealous' of him after receiving jeers from the local supporters in his side's 1-0 win in the Champions League on Wednesday night."I think that because I am rich, handsome and a great player people are envious of me. I don't have any other explanation."
The Argentinian winger Angel Di María scored for José Mourinho's side in the 53rd minute as Real began their quest for a 10th title in Europe's elite club competition.

Jerry Flannery Injury out of RWC

The Ireland hooker Jerry Flannery has been ruled out of the World Cup after he tore his left calf muscle in training as he prepared for his country's pivotal Pool C game against Australia at Eden Park on Saturday.

Flannery has had issues with his calves over the past two seasons and needed surgery last year to save his career. He narrowly made the cut for Ireland's World Cup squad having returned successfully only at the tail end of last season. The training camp was held in connection with Ireland’s upcoming 2011 RWC encounter against the RWC favourites and 2011 Tri Nations’ winners, Wallabies. Ireland will take on the Wallabies on Saturday, September 17 at Eden Park, Auckland.

According to the statement released on the Irish Rugby Union’s website, Flannery’s injury will require a period of six to eight weeks for recovery. The governing body of rugby in Ireland has named Munster's Damien Varley as a replacement for Flannery in the Irish RWC squad. It was announced that Varley will join the rest of the squad on September 17.Ireland team manager Paul McNaughton says "it is particularly disappointing for Jerry to have suffered this injury at this point in the tournament."

Munster hooker Damien Varley has been called up to the squad.

Sean Cronin will join the reserves bench as backup for hooker Rory Best in the match at Eden Park against the Wallabies.

Ex-Patriot Harrison has Bruschi’s back on Ocho

The way things are unfolding, it seems as if former Patriots of the world are uniting against the evil, destructive force that is Chad Ochocinco.

Tedy Bruschi started the movement with his radio rant about his dislike — to put it mildly — for Ochocinco’s affinity for social media. Then Rodney Harrison chimed in on “NFL Total Access,” explaining why he has Bruschi’s back on the matter.Left tackle Andrew Whitworth added some to the comments when he was asked if losing big-name players ended up being better.

“Sad to say, as much as I love you guys, sometimes stars are born from y’all, not necessarily success on the football field,” Whitworth said. “Some guys run their mouths a lot or say a lot of things so they get a lot of attention. It doesn’t mean they always play football the way it is supposed to be played. Things like that happen. People start to believe or really have an opinion of a guy that may not necessarily be true, but at the end of the day when you are a football team and guys compete that way and go out on the football field together, you have a chance to win. And that is the key thing. So it's easy to understand where he is coming from. And it's certainly easy to criticize Ochocinco's performance, which included a 5-yard penalty for illegal formation that negated a 41-yard pass to tight end Ron Gronkowski.

On the other hand, Ochocinco, who didn't get much accomplished during the abbreviated preseason, is playing in a new system for the first time and had a shortened offseason to grasp the offense. Fortunately for Ochocinco, it's only Week 1.

Watch Benfica 1-1 Man Utd Full Match

Manchester United battled away to a 1-1 draw with Benfica at the Stadium of Light in their first Champion’s League outing of the season. The Portuguese side may well have been underestimated by Sir Alex Ferguson, but his weakened side managed to come away with a point against their main competition in Group C. Oscar Cardozo took the lead for the hosts before Ryan Giggs levelled the game just before the break.

In the same fixture in 1968 Manchester United beat Benfica 4-1 to become the first English club to lift the European cup. This group game didn’t appear to be quite as important to Sir Alex Ferguson; he made 8 changes to the side that hammered Bolton in preparation for his side’s impending Premier League clash with Chelsea on Sunday. Jorge Jesus’s side didn’t look like pushovers though with world class talent such as Axel Witsel, Pablo Aimar and Oscar Cardozo in the team.United had started in composed manner, but all the assurance withered away as the half proceeded and Benfica gained in confidence. The hosts' breakthrough came as Cardozo controlled Gaitan's cross on his chest, before whipping round Jonny Evans and drilling a fine shot past Anders Lindegaard. Giggs, however, wiped out the deficit just before the break.Against the run of play Giggs made it 1-1 shortly before the interval with his eye-catching run and hit. That laid the platform for a better start by United in the second half as they began to keep possession better.United wasn't giving up, though. Luisao had to be quick to stop Rooney's break, then Artur rushed out to keep out Giggs' effort.
At the other end, Lindegaard pulled off a sharp save to deny Nolito.
The introduction of Nani on the United flank unsettled Benfica though it was Lindegaard who was called into action again to stop Gaitan's late shot.

Watch Sparks fly off catchers mask

According to baseball slang, a pitcher who throws with velocity in the mid to upper 90s is known as a "flamethrower" or a "fireballer." The adjective "blazing" is sometimes used to describe their fastballs, which are a themselves known as "heaters." As in, "Forget about the curve ball Ricky, give 'em the heater."An electrified facemask! Cool! Hey, who says the White Sox can't spark anything this season? Also, it figures that A.J. Pierzynski(notes) would be the guy to do this. He's always rattling cages.STATS LLC, Elias and Fangraphs all report that the majors have not experienced sparks since knuckleballer Steve Sparks retired after the 2004 season. The pitch in question was an 0-2 fastball from relief pitcher Joaquin Benoit to White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski that Pierzynski fouled straight back into Avila's mask. It is unclear whether the ball hitting the mask or the ball forcing to parts of the mask to rub caused the sparks to fly.

Angola Plane crash

At least 30 people were killed, including three generals, when an Angolan military aircraft crashed on Wednesday at an airport in Huambo, local media said.
Portuguese-language news outlets say the plane crashed Wednesday while trying to take off from the airport in the central city of Huambo.
The Angolan Air Force jet, built by Brazilian aircraft-maker Embraer, was carrying a delegation of high-ranking Angolan military officers. At least three people survived the accident, which happened in Huambo, about 520 kilometers (325 miles) southeast of the capital, Luanda, the news agency reported today.

Watch Arsenal. 1 vs. Borussia Dortmund 1

Arsene Wenger may have been sat high in the stands at the Westfalenstadion, but even he must have seen Ivan Perisic’s 88th-minute equaliser coming as his side drew 1-1 with Borussia Dortmund. If winning ugly is an art form, then Arsenal must further hone their craft.

It was an unstoppable effort to secure a point from the Croatian, but it had been coming. The Gunners may have been nearing their second consecutive clean sheet following their humiliation at Old Trafford 17 days ago, but their buoyancy owed as much to fortune as it did fortitude.Dortmund started brilliantly, a host of chances missed, including a heroic stop off the line by Bacary Sagna. Gervinho had a chance at the other end, but received a fine challenge from behind. Two minutes to go of the first half, and Arsenal struck. Theo Walcott threading through a delightful ball into the path of Robin Van Persie who finished well. Exactly what Arsenal needed, just before the break.Leverkusen coach Robin Dutt, meanwhile, was certain his team would improve as the Champions League wore on: "Chelsea deserved to win the game but my team gave a very good performance. Chelsea's defense just didn't make any mistakes. But the more experience my team get the better they will get."

Leverkusen next face Belgian champs Genk at BayArena on September 28, and Dortmund next travel to Marseilles to take on last year's Ligue 1 runners-up.

On Wednesday, Bayern Munich travel to Spain to face Villarreal as the German giants look to get their Champions League season off to a winning start.

Roast of Charlie Sheen: Sheenpocalypse Now

Even for Charlie Sheen, this video is a little bizarre. The new promo (entitled "Sheenpocalypse Now") for The Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen, follows in the footsteps of the previous one by parodying a classic war film—it's hard to say what this says about Sheen, or the way he looks at the world, or the way the world looks at him... but there's a heap of eerie, ominous subtext in there somewhere. After Martin admonishes his son to get out of the pool and watch his face and chases a couple girls away (still funny), he turns partly away from the camera, shakes his head and says, "When will this ever end?" Aaand, we're out of the moment and thinking about Charlie Sheen's problems, and we're guessing that's not where Comedy Central wants us to be.The “COMEDY CENTRAL Roast Of Charlie Sheen” is executive produced by Joel Gallen from Tenth Planet Productions, who also served as executive producer and director of the COMEDY CENTRAL Roasts Of Donald Trump, David Hasselhoff, Joan Rivers, Larry The Cable Guy, Bob Saget, Flavor-Flav, Pamela Anderson,
as well as the Emmy-nominated “COMEDY CENTRAL Roast Of William Shatner”. Jonas Larsen is the executive in charge for the network.

Canada Beat Tonga 25 - 20 In Rugby World Cup

Canada opened their World Cup account with a deserved 25-20 win over crowd favourites Tonga in Whangarei on Wednesday. Tonga full-back Kurt Morath had a chance to cut the deficit to just one point, but missed two straightforward efforts for the Pacific islanders - with frustrating errors a common theme in their play.Tonga had the territory and possession to drive Canada back but too often their handling let them down. Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas got his Champions League campaign off to a bright start as the Blues beat Bayer Leverkusen at Stamford Bridge. Both teams had goals disallowed in an open beginning before Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge saw shots saved.Leverkusen were more dangerous after the break but Petr Cech stopped Michael Ballack's close-range shot. The drive and determination was Torres's in stoppage time, the burst away from Reinartz splaying Bayer open, with the forward unselfishly squaring for Mata to finish. Chelsea could take heart from the displays mustered by the new arrival from Valencia, the clever Raul Meireles and the ever eager and bright Daniel Sturridge, who had forced Leno into two smart saves and offered bite up front. The emergence of Daniel Sturridge is certainly giving Villas-Boas food for thought though a day after the boss expresses his concern for comments made by Torres on his personal website. The 27-year-old called his teammates "slow" and "old".

Mariano Rivera Gets Save 600 Yankees Closer Reaches Career Milestone Video

The celebration was pure Mariano Rivera. No big screams or wild gestures. Certainly no spectacle, even if Rivera is widely regarded as the best ever at what he does.Just warm hugs and appreciative handshakes from Yankees teammates. And even that might have been more than what Rivera wanted following the 600th save of his remarkable career. In a season in which Jeter already reached one of baseball's grandest milestones with his 3,000th hit, Rivera also has added to his Yankees legacy. Next up is No. 601, which could come Wednesday night in the series finale at Seattle. The Yankees handed Burnett a 2-0 lead. In the second, Robinson Cano drilled his 25th home run of the season. Three batters later, Jesus Montero scored on a Charlie Furbush wild pitch. The lead was short-lived.Burnett’s first three innings featured all his usual delights — wild pitches, hit batsmen, extra-base hits — yet somehow he kept the Yankees in the game. Though he promptly surrendered the lead, Burnett held the line.

Mass casualties US air show plane crash

LOS ANGELES - Dozens of people were injured and possibly some killed Friday when a vintage aircraft crashed into the ground at an air show in the U.S. state of Nevada, a spokesman and video images showed.

Initial reports suggested 60 people were injured, 30 of them seriously, after the crash at the Reno National Championship Air Races, in which the small plane smashed almost headlong into the ground.

"We're being told that there are likely fatalities," race spokesman Mike Draper told CNN, adding that there were "mass casualties" in the crash, amateur video of which was posted on YouTube and shown on the news network.Stephanie Kruse, a spokeswoman for the Regional Emergency Medical Service Authority, said 25 people were critically injured and another 25 people were seriously injured in the crash.
She says the critically injured were considered to have life-threatening injuries. She says more than 25 other people were treated for minor injuries.Besides the Federal Aviation Administration personnel already there to assist the National Transportation Safety Board in any investigation, the show's spokesman said that National Guard members -- who were on-site practicing before the incident -- are helping emergency personnel to clear the area. The competition is like a car race in the sky, with planes flying wingtip-to-wingtip as low as 50 feet off the sagebrush at speeds sometimes surpassing 500 mph. Pilots follow an oval path around pylons, with distances and speeds depending on the class of aircraft.

Watch THE X FACTOR-2011-CHRIS RENE-AUDITION 1

Chris Rene auditions with ‘Young Homie’ an original song on The X Factor
He’s a trash collector. He just got out of rehab. One of the best auditions on any reality show ever.
He may not have the best vocals, but there’s no denying that he left everything on the stage when he performed. The audience responded.
LA Reid said that Chris is “the truth”.Steve Jones is the host, and he tells us how the hunt for the next great recording artist, who will get a $5 million dollar recording contract, is on. He’s in a great big truck with an X on the side. It’s a truck convoy. We are in L.A., where we see huge crowds. And Steve tells us this is the biggest prize in television history.

The competition is open to singers age 12 and up, soloists and groups.

Then there are a few minutes of awe and grandiose music for the judges and what they’ve given up to be here. You’d think they had come to save small orphan children from fires or poverty or contagions. Not that they were just talent judges who are paid a lot for their time..” Simon Cowell also praised Rene, saying, “My favorite feeling in the world is when I sit in this chair and I meet a star for the first time.”

After receiving a “yes” from all four judges, with L.A. Reid telling him that he needs to stay sober to succeed, Rene raised his arms in triumph and walked offstage. “That right there that just changed my life. That blew my mind. I’m overwhelmed,” the singer/rapper said. Expect to see more from this budding hip-hop artist in future ‘X Factor’

Cops Dancing Video With Women During West Indian Day Parade

For the uninitiated, the dance move you're about to see is called "daggering" (watch this Major Lazer video for a full introduction) and although we're pretty sure may violate some NYPD standard of conduct, everyone in the crowd goes wild and loves it. So, whatever. The annual West Indian Day parade in Brooklyn, which took place September 5, 2011, is always colorful. It celebrates the culture of the Caribbean islands. Two men in uniform who appear to be NYPD cops looked embarrassed and practically stood still when they were approached by women who bent over and shoved their rear-ends into the cops' groins.

Novak Djokovic beats Rafael Nadal (VIDEO)

Novak Djokovic confirmed his status as the world's best player with a stunning victory over defending champion Rafael Nadal to lift his first US Open title. The top seed from Serbia gave a display of breathtaking quality to triumph 6-2 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 6-1 in four hours and 10 minutes on Arthur Ashe Stadium.Against No. 2 Nadal this season, Djokovic is 6-0, all in finals – three on hard courts, including Monday; two on clay; and one on grass at Wimbledon. Djokovic also won the Australian Open in January, and is only the sixth man in the 40-plus years of the Open era to win three major titles in a single season. That was the 24-year-old Serb's last match before heading to Flushing Meadows. His shoulder was fine in New York, clearly, and while he was treated by a trainer for a bad back, a rib problem and cramps in his legs in the late going Monday — which is why his serves slowed to the 90s mph in the fourth set — he overcame it.

J.D. Drew broken middle finger

Theo Epstein told Dennis and Callahan of WEEI that J.D. Drew has a broken finger.

"He's got an avulsion fracture of his middle finger. He needs to heal," Epstein said. "Hopefully, he can come back from that. We haven't ruled anything out with him."Drew was on the verge of returning from a shoulder injury and possibly taking back significant playing time from Josh Reddick when he suffered the avulsion fracture while on a minor-league rehab assignment.Epstein told WEEI in Boston that Drew hasn’t been ruled out for the season, but “he needs to heal” and clearly isn’t close to rejoining the lineup with two weeks remaining.

Kenyan Gasoline Pipe Explosion

A leaking gasoline pipeline in Kenya's capital exploded on Monday, turning part of a slum into an inferno in which at least 61 people were killed and more than 100 hurt.

Flames leapt out from the pipeline in a radius of some 300 yards (meters), setting shacks ablaze and incinerating scores of people. Reporters later saw clusters of charred bodies and blackened bones at the site. Some burned bodies floated in a nearby river filled with sewage. Homes had been built right up to the pipeline, the residents said. The blast happened as people were trying to scoop up fuel that had spilled from a nearby tank in a densely populated slum in the capital, Nairobi.
Children at a nearby school are believed to be among the victims.
Local television reports showed horrific images of smouldering bodies and badly burnt victims trying to flee as the fire raged through the area.
Witnesses said firefighters scrambled across the corrugated rooftops of burning shacks to pour foam over the flames. They had told Odinga that the explosion was caused by a leak from the pipeline into nearby sewage, he said. Workers who answered the phones at their offices declined to give a comment or their names.

"There will be a proper investigation," Odinga said.

In 2009, at least 120 people were killed when they were trying to scoop fuel spilled from a crashed petrol tanker in Kenya and it exploded.

Breaking News Blast rocks nuclear plant in France

This is French version of Sellafield. It is difficult to evaluate right now how serious the situation, based on the information we have at the moment. But it can develop further,” said Bellona nuclear physicist Nils Bøhmer.

A security perimeter has been set up because of the risk of leakage. The explosion hit the site at 11:45 local time.An explosion hit the Marcoule nuclear plant in southern France today, killing at least one person and injuring three others, the BBC reports. The site handles nuclear waste and recycles plutonium from nuclear weapons into MOX fuel, but does not include any reactors. The explosion occurred near a furnace, but France's nuclear watchdog tells Reuters that no radioactive material has leaked out.Last March, a level 2 incident had already occurred in the same plant (on a scale up to 7). This incident was initially reported as "level 1" by Areva, but after reviewing the case, the Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) decided to classify it as "level 2". The ASN asserted it was "the failure of several safety requirements of the installation."
The last high-profile disaster at a nuclear facility was the Fukushima power plant disaster in Japan. The power plant was heavily damaged on March 11 by an earthquake and subsequent tsunami, and several of its reactors melted down after safety systems failed.
The disaster resulted in massive leaks of radioactive materials and evacuation of residents of the area.

Watch Serena Williams loses her Temper at Chair Umpire

Ln the middle of Sunday's U.S. Open final, Serena Williams lost her cool with a chair umpire, who penalized her for celebrating before a point was concluded. Williams' outburst will likely overshadow the match's surprising outcome: Australian Samantha Stosur soundly defeated Williams, winner of 13 Grand Slam titles and the heavy favorite coming into the match.

Williams was already down a set and 30-40 when she hit what appeared to be a winner to Stosur's backhand. But before the ball could reach her opponent, Williams yelled in celebration--a violation of tennis rules. Chair umpire Eva Asderaki awarded the point to Stosur, at which point Willliams lost her temper. "Are you the one who screwed me over last time?" she said. "Yeah, you are." (Williams was seemingly confusing Askeraki with a different umpire from a 2004 match against Jennifer Capriati.)So facing a break point at the start of the second set Sunday night, Williams ripped a forehand that she celebrated with her familiar yell of "Come on!'' The problem, it turned out, was she screamed as Stosur was reaching for a backhand, so the point wasn't finished. The chair umpire awarded the point to Stosur, setting Williams off on a series of insults directed at the official, a scene far less ugly than - yet reminiscent of - the American's tirade at the same tournament two years ago.Serena's lifestyle, focus and devotion to tennis have been widely questioned, but she is still standing on the baseline and hitting bombs. Despite the myriad physical setbacks, the yo-yoing in and out of the top 10, the parade of interesting friends and lovers, she continues not just to survive but also to thrive. This is not the first time Williams' temper has flared at the U.S. Open. In 2009, she famously threatened a line judge who called a foot fault on match point in a semifinal against Kim Clijsters. That explosion cost Williams the match.

Watch Injury to Junior Hoilett

Fulham and Blackburn shared a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage that kept both teams in the bottom three of the Premier League table and still searching for their first wins.Ruben Rochina's eye-catching strike gave Rovers the lead midway through the first half but an error at the back allowed Bobby Zamora to level before the break.Mark Schwarzer and Junior Hoilett clash. Blackburn's Hoilett had to leave the field in a neck brace on a stretcher. The spark remained after the interval, urgency driving both teams in search of a winner, but clear-cut chances were rare for all the busy approach play. Danny Murphy was denied by Paul Robinson but Givet, shifted into the centre following Christopher Samba's half-time withdrawal, excelled to frustrate the hosts. The nearest Fulham came was arguably in the dying seconds, when Robinson leapt to turn away Clint Dempsey's curled attempt. A point left these sides in the relegation zone in the formative Premier League table, with confidence still brittle at both.

Watch Rugby World Cup 2011 Ireland 22-10 USA

Good lord, it's early in the morning for a rugby game, isn't it? This brings back memories of 2003. Except I'm in here and not in the pub.

Ireland will, of course, be expecting to win this. But, then again, after their run-in to the World Cup you could forgive them for having very little confidence. Still with the likes of O'Driscoll, Heaslip, Bowe and Ferris in the team, they have enough quality to come good eventually. Don't they? Declan Kidney has chosen the rookie scrum-half Conor Murray to start against USA, which is a big call. "It's a big call," said Declan Kidney. And he's right. The USA Eagles scored a last minute consolation try as Ireland were looking to score the bonus point for four tries. Instead Paul Emerick intercepted a pass and ran half the field to score. Ireland's pool rivals Australia and Italy were engaged in a dogfight in the opening match of Pool C but Australia to forged clear in the last few minutes.

The Wallabies have went ahead through a Ben Alexander try after Digby Ioane's break put Australia on the attack inside the Italian 22.

Adam Ashley-Cooper and James O'Connor have followed up with further five-pointers. O'Connor has put over two of the three conversions and they are 25-6 up with 20 minutes to go.

Watch Klitschko Vs Vitali-Klitschko Full Fight

Though Tomasz Adamek was game today in Wroclaw, Poland, fighting in front of over 40,000 of his home fans, it was clear very early in the fight that Vitali Klitschko was going to be too big and too strong, and that was indeed the case.
Klitschko successfully defended his WBC heavyweight title, stopping a reeling and hurting Adamek in the 10th round when referee Massimo Barrovecchio stepped in to stop the beatdown.o determine whether Klitschko is an all-time great heavyweight, I will have to eliminate my own particular prejudices and set up certain attributes that can be measured scientifically to come to a clear conclusion. The question is: What will the criteria include?
To start off, we must consider achievements in the ring. Boxing's landscape is littered with fighters whose successes did not end up matching their skill or talent. Dominance should also be considered, even if this factor might work against Klitschko, who is boxing in an era with limited talent pools. Nevertheless, it should be included, as it rewards fighters who stood out from their peers. How long the fight lasts depends on Adamek's ability to take a pounding and the bravery of the referee. There could be some fierce exchanges early on, but on top of all of his other attributes, Klitschko has a bombproof chin, and is unlikely to be hurt by anything Adamek brings to the table.

I see this being an extremely entertaining fight for the first six rounds before Adamek starts to ship a lot of punishment to the head. By the 10th round even Adamek's Polish supporters will be calling for the referee to stop it.

Novak Djokovic VS Roger Federer Semifinal - US Open 2011

This year's U.S. Open has seen many unusual events—player unity against slippery courts, two straight days and nights washed out by rain, a mixed-doubles title won by two American teenagers who had combined for 10 singles match wins on tour this year. But one feature has arrived right on schedule: The Big Four are playing in the men's semifinals on Super Saturday. Defending champion Rafael Nadal, the world No. 2, plays No. 4 Andy Murray, the 2008 finalist, later today. First up: No. 3 Roger Federer, the five-time champion, vs. No. 1 Novak Djokovic, twice a runner-up.The pair have met 23 times, with Federer winning 14 to Djokovic's nine, but in the past two years it's a much closer 5-4 to the Swiss and in 2011 it's 3-1 to Djokovic with that defeat on the red clay at Roland Garros the only blemish.Nadal and Djokovic will meet for the third time over the last five Grand Slam finals. But even with the loss, Federer showed he's not done.

To move within a point of the match after the way Djokovic played the third and fourth sets was a testament to what the 30-year-old still has left in the tank.

"I did all the right things in so many tournaments," Federer said. "But like I said, sometimes in sports it just goes the other way. Maybe you've already won so much that it evens it out a bit sometimes. I don't know."

Cliff Robertson Died

Oscar-winning actor Cliff Robertson died Saturday at the age of 88, says the Hollywood Reporter.

Robertson earned a Best Actor Oscar for his role in 1968's "Charly," in which he played a disabled man who gets a miracle medical treatment that turns him into a genius before he regresses to his previous mental state.

Also among his hundreds of memorable movie and TV roles was his portrayal of John F. Kennedy in the WWII film "PT-109."Although he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as the mentally-impaired Charly, Robertson’s best-know role was, perhaps, in real-life. He was touted as a “profile in courage” for reporting that Columbia studio head David Begelman had forged his name on a $10,000 check in the late ‘70s. Begelman, who misappropriated more than $60,000 in studio funds, was later convicted in what the press deemed “Hollywoodgate.” Robertson was considered a hero by many for, essentially, putting his career on the line by taking on a powerful studio head.Robertson had the most success in war movies. His strong presence made him ideal for such films as "The Naked and the Dead," "Battle of Coral Sea," "633 Squadron," "Up From the Beach," "The Devil's Brigade," "Too Late the Hero" and "Midway."

He had a passion for flying, and he poured his movie earnings into buying and restoring World War I and II planes. He even entered balloon races, including one in 1964 from the mainland to Catalina Island that ended with him being rescued from the Pacific Ocean.

In 1957, Robertson married Lemmon's ex-wife, Cynthia Stone, and they had a daughter, Stephanie, before splitting in 1960. In 1966, he married Merrill and they had a daughter, Heather. The couple divorced in 1989.

Nasa launches gravity Moon probes

An unmanned Delta 2 rocket blasted off from Cape Canaveral Air Force on Saturday to send a pair of NASA science probes on their way to the moon.

After being delayed two days by poor weather and to review technical data after Thursday’s launch scrub, the 124-tall rocket bolted off its seaside pad at 9:08 a.m. EDT on Saturday, darting through partly cloudy skies as it headed into orbit. The Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory (GRAIL) mission was developed with scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The mission's "primary science objectives will be to determine the structure of the lunar interior, from crust to core and to advance understanding of the thermal evolution of the Moon," NASA explains. "As a secondary objective, GRAIL will extend knowledge gained from the Moon to the other terrestrial planets."

The satellite probes were launched on the second try, after an initial launch date was scratched because of high winds, Reuters reports. The probes will shoot out more than 930,000 miles into space, to the point where the gravitational pull from the earth and the sun become equal, then slowly drift toward the moon by the very end of the year. The moon's lumpy gravity field will cause slight differences in the force of gravity on the two probes, which will orbit the moon in single file, causing them to move closer or farther from each other. Monitoring the distance between them will produce lunar gravity maps with at least 100 times the resolution of previous measurements, including maps made by Japan's Kaguya mission.

Watch Stoke City 1-0 Liverpool Full Match

Liverpool stumbled over a familiar hurdle at the Britannia Stadium as they slipped to their first defeat of the season.

In four visits to Stoke since the Potters earned promotion to the Barclays Premier League, the Reds have collected just two points and lost their last two matches.

Not since 1968 have Stoke recorded back-to-back home league wins over Liverpool and the result brought a side brimming with confidence before the international break back down to earth with a hefty bump.Liverpool had the first chance of the game as Luis Suarez capitalised on a high bouncing ball that swirled in the wind by pushing past Matthew Upson, but the Uruguayan's half volley took a deflection and flew out for a corner, from which the forward was unfortunate to see a whipped Charlie Adam corner skim off his chest and bobble wide at the far post.

The visitors dominated the early exchanges, but Stoke could have found themselves ahead as a Matthew Etherington free-kick was whipped across the six-yard box, where Ryan Shawcross, whose shirt was being firmly gripped by Skrtel, failed to get a telling connection. The second half was played almost entirely in the Stoke half, but the likes of Matthew Upson, Shawcross and Begovic held firm under enormous Liverpool pressure.

Shawcross did well to get the ball ahead of Suarez as Downing crossed for the Uruguayan, while another cross from the Liverpool winger reached Bellamy at the far post but the Welsh international headed his effort wide.

Late on Suarez claimed a penalty, arguing that Upson had handled the ball, while the Uruguayan should have secured a point for the visitors only to skew his shot wide with the goal at his mercy.

England beat Argentina 13-9

England won 13-9 against Argentina in their Group B clash at the Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin on Saturday. Argentina will pick up a bonus point for losing within seven points. In what was a horrible display of goalkicking from both sides, Argentina will rue the five missed kicks by their goalkickers.Wilkinson converted Ben Young's try and converted a late penalty which gave England the four point lead which was enough to seal the victory for his team.Massive blow for Argentina as Contepomi is helped off. England kick the penalty to the corner and win the line-out, Argentina hold out, but England are awarded the put-in at a five metre scrum.Never in doubt, eh, lads and lasses? England will no doubt say a win's a win, but that performance will hardly have the big guns quaking in their boots. Next up Georgia, a week on Sunday. They've got a grizzled pack and never say die attitude, so thankfully nothing like Argentina.

Watch Egyptians Break Into Israeli Embassy

Protesters broke into the Israeli Embassy in Cairo Friday and dumped documents out of the windows as hundreds more demonstrated outside, prompting the ambassador and his family to leave the country. The unrest was a further worsening of already deteriorating ties between Israel and post-Hosni Mubarak Egypt.
Egyptian police made no attempt to intervene during the day as crowds of hundreds tore down an embassy security wall with sledgehammers and their bare hands or after nightfall when about 30 protesters stormed into the Nile-side high-rise building where the embassy is located. In Washington, President Barack Obama expressed “great concern” about the situation in Cairo and called on Egyptian authorities to protect the Israeli mission.Since the fall of former leader Hosni Mubarak in February, calls have grown in Egypt for ending the historic 1979 peace treaty with Israel.
Anger escalated last month after Israeli forces responding to a cross-border militant attack mistakenly killed five Egyptian police officers near the border.First Erdogan said he’ll suspend defense ties with Israel until Netanyahu apologizes for the raid; now, in a bit of Nasserite pandering to the Israel-hating Arab Street, he’s vowing to send Turkish warships to escort the next flotilla to Gaza. Give him credit for being opportunistic: With Egypt in limbo, Syria being torn apart, and Iran suddenly nervous about losing its regional client regimes and possibly having to deal with another uprising, there’s a big fat power vacuum in the Middle East and Turkey’s going to try to fill it. Not so long ago that would have been good news — Turkey’s a NATO member, after all, and historically has been more secular than other Muslim states — but with Erdogan and the Islamists now in charge, who knows what those warships will do?

Vancouver Island Earthquake 6.4

A major earthquake that rumbled across Vancouver Island was felt as far away as B.C.'s Okanagan Valley to the east and Seattle to the south, but caused no injuries and apparently little damage when it hit midday Friday.

The estimated 6.4-magnitude tremor occurred at 12:41 p.m. PT, with an epicentre about 50 kilometres off the west coast of the island, about 300 kilometres west of Vancouver. The village is one of the closest to the earthquake’s epicentre 18 kilometres below the surface off the coast of B.C. The school in Zeballos with 90 students was closed after the earthquake struck at 12:41 p.m. local time.

Bellavie said there’s no sign of any damage to infrastructures from the quake, which rattled dishes in area homes. The shaking was caused by what's known as a crustal earthquake, which means it was believed to have occurred in the top 15 kilometres of the Earth's crust.

That sort of quake isn't unusual for the region, said Garry Rogers, an earthquake scientist with the Geological Survey of Canada.B.C.'s coast is a seismically active zone with small quakes not being uncommon. Larger seismic events have struck the area. In 2001, a 6.8 quake struck Washington state causing property damage in Seattle. In 1980 Mt. Saint Helens, located just 150 km south of Seattle, erupted showering ash all over the region and disrupting air travel.

Two and a Half Men' Cast Read David Letterman

If you’re a Two and a Half men fan, you might want to check out the Late Show with David Letterman this Thursday night. CBS announced today that the three lead actors are set to appear on the show to present the Top Ten List. "This season, we'll reveal who the mother is," Cryer read on number five, prompting David Letterman to say it does not make sense because it should be the mystery answered by another CBS comedy, "How I Met Your Mother". On number four, Kutcher said, "We're switching to metric, so it'll be 4.023 Men," while Jones read reason number 3, "I'm thirty-five ***damn years old." It’s certainly not news that Kutcher is joining the Men cast to fill the void left by Charlie Sheen. CBS’ announcement today describes Kutcher’s character as, “Walden Schmidt, an Internet billionaire with a broken heart. It's also Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones. All three of the 2.5 trio give us their top ten reasons to watch the new season of Two and a Half Men.

Obama's jobs speech to Congress

President Obama's jobs speech on Thursday had been characterized in the wide world of punditry as his "Moment of Truth." His "Last Chance." His "Big Speech." His ... well, you get the picture.

There was a lot riding on the president's address to a joint session of Congress, in which he laid out an expansive and expensive — nearly $450 billion — plan to "jolt" the nation's anemic employment market.“For weeks, I have been in Minnesota hearing from job creators, workers, and too many frustrated unemployed Americans about how we can get America working again. They want to see positive solutions that put the nation’s fiscal house in order and remove Washington’s regulatory roadblocks to job creation.

“I was pleased to hear the President heed the call of Americans by expressing a desire to work together to promote long term economic growth. Unfortunately, his call for more stimulus-type measures ignores the reality that people – not government – are our nation’s true job creators. The private sector doesn’t need Washington to tell them how to create jobs; they need Washington to get out of their way.The plan the president laid out Thursday night in a nationally televised speech would cost nearly $450 billion and would increase and extend a payroll tax cut for workers that goes to Social Security. It also provides a tax cut to employers. Most of Obama's proposals stand little chance of being implemented without the backing of congressional Republicans.

Obama's quick trip to Richmond is expected to be the first of several he'll make around the country in the coming weeks to tout his jobs proposals.

Vigor Bovolenta Dead: Italian Volleyball Player Dies After On-Court Heart Attack At Age 37

MACERATA, Italy -- The Italian volleyball federation says 1996 Olympic silver medalist Vigor Bovolenta has died after he was stricken with a heart attack while playing a match. He was 37.

Attempts to resuscitate failed following his collapse on the court Saturday during a second-tier league game between his Volley Forli team and Lube Macerata. Bovolenta had reportedly complained teammates of feeling faint during the match.

Federation President Carlo Magri said Sunday that Bovolenta was an "exceptional guy" and his death is a "very great loss."

A major outage knocked out power in a region of almost six million people in the U.S. southwest and Mexico on Thursday, bringing San Diego to a near-standstill and leaving people in the surrounding desert to swelter in late-summer heat. Two nuclear reactors went offline after losing electricity, but officials said there was no danger to the public or workers.More than one million utility customers in San Diego County, parts of Orange County, parts of Arizona and the Mexican state of Baja California all lost power after a line transporting electricity from Arizona power plants to California customers failed, according to the California Independent System Operator. In a press release Thursday night, the Arizona Public Service (APS) said one of its employees was carrying out a procedure at a substation northeast of Yuma that caused the problem. The utility said the resulting power failure should have been isolated to the Yuma area. An investigation into why it was not is under way, the utility said. This was not a deliberate act. The employee was just switching out a piece of equipment that was problematic," said Dan Froetscher, a vice president at APS.The Orange County Fire Authority reported an increase in traffic accidents as drivers attempted to navigate streets without functional traffic signals, the Los Angeles Times reported, adding there had been some reports of people being rescued from amusement parks and elevators.
Extra police were deployed on the streets of San Diego Thursday night and residents were advised to stay at home.
